Starting a European Citizens' Initiative

The European Citizens‘ Initiative (ECI) is aimed at increasing direct democracy by enabling private citizens of the EU to directly influence the development of European policies. The mechanism was introduced with the Treaty of Lisbon in 2007. Through an initiative, the EU gives the opportunity to 1 million of its‘ citizens, who are nationals of at least one quarter of the member states, to directly pressure the European Commission to propose a legal act (for example a Directive or Regulation) in an area where the principle of subsidiarity of Member States does not apply.

We experienced first hand how tedious it can be to create every signup form and flyer from scratch, which is why we decided to offer up our existing resources for your use.

We also added a couple of links to a bunch of useful open source software tools that are just as good, if not better, than the commercially available alternatives, the price of which often lies in the hundreds for just one year of use.
